About Doreen

headshop 2015Doreen has been studying psychology since she began her undergraduate work at the University of California, Berkeley in 1980.  She has been in private practice as a psychotherapist for 30 years, and is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in California and Arizona. She has taught graduate school, trained and supervised therapists, and worked in numerous agencies, clinics, and public and private schools throughout her career. She is currently in private practice in Sedona, Arizona.

Her areas of expertise include substance abuse, anxiety, depression, trauma, eating disorders, relationship issues, families, adolescents and troubled teens. She is a certified EMDR clinician and works with both adults and children who have experienced trauma. She has recently integrated Trauma Sensitive Yoga to her practice, for those individuals who are interested and want to rediscover the natural intelligence of the body. As a therapist she combines her strong theoretical knowledge of family systems and cognitive behavioral therapy with solid clinical skills. She counsels adults, children, adolescents, couples and families, working interactively and collaboratively with her clients and providing a safe and non-judgmental environment for healing.

As an educational consultant Doreen utilizes her therapeutic skills and  experience with families and adolescents to help them evaluate and choose programs that will meet the specific needs of their students or young adults.IMG_1388 She provides evaluation and assessment for parents and their children, and guidance and direction to help families find the most effective, healing and dynamic setting for their child. She works with children and young adults finding settings such as therapeutic boarding schools, wilderness programs, residential treatment programs, eating disorder hospitals and programs, and substance abuse programs. She works with children with learning differences and learning disorders, ADD/ADHD, oppositional defiant disorder, low self-esteem, anger issues, self harm, and substance abuse issues.

Doreen visits programs and schools in the United States to learn about their strengths and specializations so she can find the best possible match for families who are looking for residential care for their child or young adult. Doreen is a member of NATSAP and CAMFT, and a professional member of IECA
